Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) wishes to remind all Electrical Installations Permits and Private Electricity Generation Registration Certificates holders that their permits and certificates respectively for the year 2019 will expire on 31st December, 2019.
All Electrical Installations Persons certified by MERA undertaking electrical and renewable energy installations in the country and those with electricity private generation facilities above 20 KVA are hereby reminded to renew their Permits and Registration Certificates respectively for the year 2020.
The Electrical Installations Persons are, further, requested to submit reports of their progress during the year which will form part of conditions for renewal of their permit next year.
Please be advised that MERA will in due course be undertaking compliance monitoring exercise to check performance of the certified electrical installations and ensure that those who are operating without a Permit or without being registered are duly prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The general public is being reminded that undertaking electrical and renewable energy installations without a valid Permit issued by MERA as well as undertaking private generation of electricity of above 20 KVA without being registered by MERA is a criminal offence whose punishment upon conviction is imprisonment for six months.
The general public is further being informed that all premises whose electrical installations have been undertaken by persons without a valid Permit issued by MERA cannot be connected with electricity by ESCOM.
